All Legend. No Compromise
More Power to the Pony!
Employing twin independent variable camshaft timing (TiVCT) and cold air induction, the new 2011 Mustang engines deliver more power, greater off-the-line low-end torque – and increased fuel efficiency.* The V6, featuring a die-cast aluminum engine block, boasts 305 horsepower and 31 MPG in the city, while the 5.0L V8, featuring an aluminum block, pumps out a smoking 412 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. And all engines are mated to six-speed transmissions. There’s no such thing as compromise for these ponies.
New 5.0 V-8 Engine
The legendary Mustang 5.0 engine returns in 2011. And it’s better than ever, delivering 412 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft of torque. It features Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (TiVCT), a cast-aluminum engine block and cold air induction to help pump out more power. But that’s only for starters. The cylinder head design is optimized to increase airflow. The spark plugs are optimized to deliver more fire, resulting in a more powerful and efficient combustion, thanks to the High-Energy Coil-on-Plug Design. And to handle all the heat this engine generates, the cooling jets are designed to keep the engine running at higher temperatures and improve longevity. And then there’s the H-pipe exhaust delivering a throaty lyrical roar. Purely Mustang.
New 3.7L 4V Ti-VCT V-6 Engine
The new 3.7L 4V Ti-VCT V6 engine achieves an industry-exclusive 305 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque while delivering EPA-estimated 31 hwy MPG. That’s due in part to twin independent variable cam timing (TiVCT) which allows variable control of intake and exhaust camshafts. This capability optimizes combustion at full load to provide improved power and low speed torque. It also enables variable valve overlap, which provides better fuel economy and optimizes cold start operation with improved exhaust emissions.
New 6 Speed Transmissions
Mustang now features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an available six-speed automatic transmission – both delivering a smooth-shifting performance. On top of that, they provide more responsive low-end acceleration and greater fuel economy in the high overdrive gear.*
Advance Trac with ESC
AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control (ESC), standard on Mustang, gives you more confidence and control behind the wheel under slippery road conditions. AdvanceTrac uses sensors to detect and measure yaw, or side-to-side skidding conditions, by monitoring the vehicle’s speed, throttle position and steering wheel angle. When AdvanceTrac senses wheel slippage, it reduces engine torque and applies the brakes as needed. In the 2011 Mustang GT Premium, AdvanceTrac® ESC can be placed in ‘on,’ ‘off’ or Sport mode position – allowing you to push it more while still retaining control. This feature provides unique calibration for a spirited driving experience.
Cold Air Induction
Designed by Ford Racing Technology and now standard in all Mustang models, cold air induction delivers a cold, dense intake charge to the cylinders, which helps achieve increased horsepower. The intake, mounted in an air box that’s unique to Mustang, is extensively sealed to ensure that cold air from the vehicle’s front end is continuously fed to the engine.
