Hybrid PerformanceFusion Hybrid propulsion is supplied by a combination of two sources: an electric motor powered by an innovative nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery and the next generation of the 2.5L Atkinson-Cycle I-4 gas engine. Fusion Hybrid can travel up to 47 miles per hour in Electric Vehicle mode alone, a higher speed than any other hybrid vehicle. The gas engine kicks in below 47 mph when extra power is needed, such as in passing situations, and provides the main source of power above 47 mph. Both the gas engine and the electric motor combine to deliver a power rating of 191 net horsepower when you need maximum power.
Flex Fuel Capability
The responsive available 3.0L Duratec V6 has Flex Fuel capability. You can run on unleaded gasoline, E85 (up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) or any mix of the two. So you can fill up wherever you are, even if E85 isn't readily available.
The exclusive dual LCD SmartGauge™ Cluster with EcoGuide is an innovative gauge cluster that provides real- time information to help you get the most efficiency from your Fusion Hybrid. SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. A tutorial built into the display lets you choose one of four data screens for the level of information you want — Inform, Enlighten, Engage or Empower — and explains your options within each. Regenerative Braking
When you apply the brakes in a conventional vehicle, kinetic energy is lost to heat due to friction. During braking in the Fusion Hybrid, the regenerative braking system captures 94 percent of this energy that is normally lost and sends it back to the battery pack to be stored for later use. Not only is regenerative braking efficient, but it helps minimize wear on the brake pads, lowering the cost of maintenance.

MyKey™
The standard programmable MyKey™ feature is new in 2011 Fusion. It employs several innovative tools designed to help parents encourage teenagers to drive safely. Standard settings (that cannot be altered or disabled) include: • The Belt-Minder® System, which reminds front passenger occupants to buckle their safety belts, cannot be disabled and will not expire (the audio system also gets muted whenever BeltMinder is avtivated)* • Low-fuel warnings are displayed in the message center followed by a chime when the Distance-to-Empty value reaches 75 miles (120 km) • If equipped, the available Reverse Sensing System, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS™) with Cross Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support cannot be deactivated. Optional settings, which can be changed by authorized users, include: • Limiting the vehicle’s maximum speed to 80 mph (130 kmh); visual warnings and chimes are displayed at the vehicle’s start to inform the driver that the vehicle speed is limited to 80 mph (130 kmh) • Should the vehicle speed limit setting be activated, at 75 mph the driver is given an audio warning that the vehicle is approaching the top speed; at 80 mph, the driver is warned that the vehicle has reached the top speed and is encouraged to check his/her speed – and drive safely – via visual warnings and chimes. There are several maximum speed settings available, including 45-, 55- or 65-mph (75-, 90-, or 105-kmh. • The maximum volume of the audio system is limited to 45 percent. • The AdvanceTrac® System cannot be turned off. When this setting is on, the MyKey user will not be able to deactivate the system. This prevents the driver from burning the tires, performing doughnuts and other unsafe practices.

BLIS™ with Cross Traffic Alert
The available BLIS™ (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross Traffic Alert is yet another innovation available on the 2011 Ford Fusion. Using two multiple-beam radar modules positioned in the rear quarter panels, the system’s radar detects moving objects within an area on either side of the vehicle extending rearward from the outside mirror to approximately 10 feet beyond the bumper. With BLIS™ (Blind Spot Information System), the radar identifies a vehicle entering the defined blind spot zone and illuminates an indicator LED light on the corresponding side view mirror. When a vehicle is crossing while you’re backing out of a parking spot or your driveway, the Cross Traffic Alert feature provides an audible warning, flashes an indicator light in the corresponding sideview mirror, and alerts you in the message center. BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert is available along with the Rear View Camera in the Driver’s Vision Package for SEL, Sport and Hybrid models. The package also includes new rain-sensing wipers.
Rear View Camera
Put the gear selector in Reverse and the optional Rear View Camera automatically transmits the image to your rearview mirror (shown), when you’re slowly backing up. If your Fusion is equipped with the available Navigation System, the image is shown on the navigation screen. The Rear View Camera is included in the Driver’s Vision Package for Fusion SEL, Sport and Hybrid models.
Reverse Sensing System
The Reverse Sensing System uses an audible signal to alert you to an obstacle up to 6 feet behind you when you're slowly backing up. The alert sound becomes more frequent and louder the closer the vehicle gets to the object. It’s optional in Fusion SE, SEL and Sport models, and standard in the Fusion Hybrid.
Balanced Ride and Handling
Ford Fusion features a double-wishbone independent front suspension with stabilizer bar, a design commonly found in top-of-the-line sports and luxury cars. And Ford engineers made the best use of the multi-link independent rear suspension's design flexibility to deliver excellent ride quality and handling capability.

All-Wheel Drive
The V6-powered Fusion with available All-Wheel Drive (AWD) improves traction and handling on any surface where wheel slip can occur, such as ice, snow, mud, gravel or even dry pavement. It constantly monitors driving conditions and distributes engine torque to the wheels with the most traction. So if the front wheels are experiencing poor traction, AWD will automatically transfer more torque to the rear wheels or the wheels having the most traction. At highway speed, the AWD system automatically deactivates to help conserve fuel but is able to reactivate if wheel slip is anticipated or detected.
47 MPH in EV Mode
Fusion Hybrid can go up to 47 miles per hour in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode. No other hybrid vehicle can match this top speed in EV mode. This helps Fusion Hybrid achieve a 41 miles per gallon in city traffic and over 700 miles on a single tank of gas.* And that’s an important fact well worth considering when investing in a hybrid vehicle.
