The ultimate high-performance, low-impact SUV.

Escape Hybrid was the first vehicle to combine SUV capability with the outstanding fuel economy and low environmental impact of a full hybrid vehicle. The Hybrid has the ability to travel at speeds up to 44 miles per hour, while in full electric mode, yet uses no fuel when you're stopped in traffic. The Hybrid delivers an impressive 34 city mpg* when the engine kicks in, for lively acceleration. In addition, it features comfortable seating for five, a versatile cargo area, and a number of standard and optional amenities. What’s not to love?

No-Compromise Hybrid

Escape Hybrid is a full hybrid. It can start off from a complete stop and can accelerate up to 44 mph on electricity alone, during light acceleration. No fuel used. And even when the gasoline engine kicks in, it maintains an outstanding 34 city mpg fuel economy in stop-and-go driving situations.* Yet the driving experience is virtually identical to a conventional SUV. Escape Hybrid provides comfortable seating for up to five, a versatile cargo area and a variety of standard and optional amenities. You can even add an available Intelligent 4WD System for enhanced traction whether the road is covered with gravel or ice or soaked by rain.

34 MPG City

automedia review

Love the city life? When running in pure electric mode, Escape Hybrid can start off from a complete stop and, during light acceleration, can go up to 44 mph on electricity alone. No fuel used. And even when the the 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I4 gasoline engine kicks in, it maintains an outstanding 34 city mpg fuel economy in stop-and-go driving situations.

  • EPA estimated 34 city/31 hwy mpg, FWD. Mileage listed here are 2010 numbers.

Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH) Battery

The innovative Escape Hybrid nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) battery is completely sealed and securely encased, and stored neatly under the flat rear cargo area load floor. What's more, the Regenerative Braking System recharges the NiMH battery each time you apply the brakes. A unique Hybrid component, it's covered under the 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty in non-California emissions states and under the 10-year/150,000-mile limited Hybrid battery warranty in certain other green conscious states. See your dealer for details.

Regenerative Braking

When you apply the brakes in a conventional vehicle, the energy produced during the braking process is lost as heat. During braking in Escape Hybrid, the vehicle’s electric motor captures the energy and sends it back to the battery pack to be stored for later use. Thus, whenever you apply the brakes, you’re also recharging the vehicle’s battery pack. How’s that for smart?

Reduced Emissions

Not only does Escape Hybrid thrive in city driving, it's easy on the environment too, meeting strict Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II) and Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards.

Eco-Friendly Seats

The standard innovative Earth-friendly cloth seat fabric in Escape XLT and Escape Hybrid is made from 100 percent post-industrial materials — polyester fibers that would have ended up in landfills otherwise. Furthermore, the cushions use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils of various plant seeds such as soybeans. More than simply "green," the durable, comfortable and stylish nature of the material also makes it a perfect fit for Escape.

Flex-Fuel Engine

The available 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine for Escape is a flex-fuel-capable engine. A flex-fuel engine is designed to operate on standard unleaded gasoline or E85 alternative fuel. Such flexibility allows the vehicle owner to choose E85 fuel, which is a combination of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent conventional gasoline, wherever it's available for purchase.

Hybrid Component Warranty

In addition to the standard 3-year/36,000-mile limited bumper-to-bumper warranty, the 2011 Escape Hybrid comes with an extended 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty covering Hybrid components. Unique Hybrid components covered under the 8-year/100,000 mile limited warranty are the high-voltage battery (non-California emissions states), eCVT and DC/DC Converter. Extended to a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty in certain states. See your dealer for complete limited warranty details.

Escape pays close attention when you speak.

Available Active Park Assist

If you could use a little assistance when parallel parking, Ford has your helping hand. It's called Active Park Assist. While driving slowly in the parking zone, activate Park Assist and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once a spot that's big enough is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. Give the system the green light to proceed and Active Park Assist controls the steering. All you do is control the shifting, accelerating and braking.

MyKey™

MyKey™ technology is a standard feature, on all Escape models, designed to help parents encourage teenagers to drive more safely. It allows owners to designate a key that will operate special features for teen drivers. For example, MyKey™ can restrict the vehicle’s top speed to 80 mph and limit the entertainment system’s audio volume to 45 percent of maximum volume. It also provides a warning when the fuel tank reaches 75 miles to empty, allows the administrator to select speed alert chimes at 45, 55 or 65 mph, and sets the Belt-Minder™ System to chime, while muting the audio system until the safety belt is buckled. Additionally, it limits tire spinning by ensuring the traction control system cannot be deactivated.

SIRIUS® Satellite Radio

Escape always plays like a good sport.

Escape is a more perfect form of SUV – one that delivers sporty performance and great fuel economy. If you’re looking for power, there’s plenty. The available 240-hp V6 engine allows Escape to pull a good-size boat when properly equipped. And if you’re looking to go farther on less, the Escape I-4 engine also boasts impressive fuel mileage.* Good form, indeed.

Technology for economy. Technology for power.

Escape Hybrid’s lively acceleration with low environmental impact and excellent fuel economy is the result of the partnering of an electric motor and a peppy gasoline engine. The electric motor can propel the vehicle up to 44 mph on its own. When extra power is needed, the 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gas engine joins in to deliver brisk acceleration. This engine features late intake valve closing (LIVC) as well as advancements in processor technology for a smooth transition from gas to electric mode.

Impressive Highway Fuel Economy

Escape comes standard with a mighty 2.5L Duratec® I-4 engine with advanced features such as intake variable-cam timing technology. The engine is mated to either a five-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic transmission, and it produces 171 hp and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. What’s more, all this power comes with impressive highway fuel economy ratings.* If you're looking for an SUV that delivers excellent economy as well as responsive performance, look no further.

  • 2010 EPA-estimated 22 city/28 hwy mpg with I-4 manual, FWD. EPA-estimated 21 city/28 hwy with I-4 automatic, FWD.

240 hp 3.0L Duratec® V6

Another great Escape performance option is the potent 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine mated to an efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine churns out strength and provides torque to give you responsive power when you want it, all while delivering striking fuel economy.* The 3.0L Duratec® V6 is also a flex-fuel-capable engine. A flex-fuel engine is designed to operate on standard unleaded gasoline or E85 alternative fuel.

  • 2010 EPA-estimated 19 city/25 hwy mpg, FWD.

6-Speed Automatic Transmission

Escape models with an automatic transmission are equipped with a six-speed gearbox for smooth performance. Furthermore, with its wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds, this transmission of power provides pleasingly responsive acceleration at the low end and excellent highway fuel economy* in the overdrive sixth gear.

  • 2010 EPA-estimated 21 city/28 hwy mpg, I-4 automatic, FWD; 19 city/25 hwy mpg, V6 automatic, FWD.

Intelligent 4WD

Whether traveling on- or off-road, Escape’s available Intelligent 4WD System is always on and always working to help provide maximum traction. What’s so smart about the system is its ability to sense traction input 200 times per second and automatically adjusting torque distribution as needed. Such adjustments work to help ensure maximum grip where the rubber meets the road.

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™)

All Escape models come equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors that measure both vehicle yaw and roll motion. If you corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object, RSC® automatically applies brake pressure and adjusts engine power to help you keep your vehicle under control.*

  • Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a
vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.

Excellent Handling

Escape’s excellent handling characteristics can be attributed, in part, to the independent double-lateral and semi-trailing arm design of the vehicle’s rear suspension system, which allows each rear wheel to operate independently and negotiate road conditions individually. An 18.5mm rear stabilizer bar and precise suspension tuning also contribute to the controlled, responsive ride.

Big Towing Capacity

If towing a boat or camper is part of your active lifestyle, the available 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine is for you. This muscular engine gives Escape excellent towing capacity – up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with the available Class II Trailer Tow Package. In addition, there’s Trailer Sway Control. To add towing confidence, this feature automatically determines the yaw motion of the vehicle if the trailer is swaying and take measures – such as applying precise braking or reduced engine torque – to help bring both the vehicle and the trailer under control.

Versa-Utility

Don't let the "small SUV" category fool you. There’s roomy, comfortable seating for five plus a versatile cargo area. There’s 31.4 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the rear seats, or fold them down for 67.2 cu. ft. (66.4 in Escape Hybrid). The roof rack carries up to 100 lbs with the available crossbars. Even the smallest storage needs are accommodated, with a 3-tier storage system in the center console with a hidden level big enough for a laptop or a purse.

Safety Features

Escape is designed to create a safe interior environment with a strong body structure that includes front crumple zone and side-door intrusion beams, and standard comprehensive airbag coverage. Dual-stage front airbags,* included in the Personal Safety System®, enhance protection coverage for the driver and front passenger. The six standard airbags also include front seat-mounted side airbags and the Safety Canopy® System with side curtain airbags.* Additionally, side view mirrors with integrated spotter mirrors come standard to help reduce rear vision blind spots.*Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.

Cargo Space

Escape seats five passengers with its front bucket seats and 60/40 rear seats. Fold both rear seat backs down and you have 67.2 cu. ft. of space for carrying cargo (66.4 cu. ft. in Escape Hybrid). If you don't need all this space, you can fold either one of the rear seat backs down and still seat one or two rear passengers and have extra room for cargo.

Wet Trunk Bin

Escape features a hidden lockable wet trunk bin positioned underneath the rear cargo area. The wet trunk works to protect the vehicle’s carpeting from wet or dirty items such as hiking boots. Available with the optional Cargo Package, the wet trunk is a handy place for your post adventure gear. Not available on Hybrid models.

Roof Rack

When it comes time to load and go, you’ll be glad you have a roof rack as a cargo-carrying option. The side rails are Black on XLS, XLT and Escape Hybrid, Chrome on the Escape Limited and Hybrid Limited. The available Cargo Package, standard on Escape Limited, offers further cargo-carrying convenience.

Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control

Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) allows the driver and front passenger to set individual zone temperatures for complete comfort. Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) comes standard on all Escape Hybrid models (shown), and is available on Escape Limited.

Center Console

The versatility inside the 2011 Escape can be appreciated down to the smallest details. The floor console features a three-tier storage system with two removable bins. A bottom, hidden storage level is even large enough to hold a laptop computer or purse.

Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel Filler

With the standard Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel Filler, fill-ups are quick and easy while eliminating the potential to drive with a missing or improperly installed gas cap. The industry-exclusive feature also helps to reduce smog-forming evaporative emissions. When fueling is completed and the fuel pump nozzle is removed, the system automatically seals shut.

Power Moonroof

Let in more sunshine and fresh air with the available power moonroof. A sunshade and mini overhead console are included. The power moonroof on Escape XLT is available with Ford SYNC® in the Sun & SYNC® Package. And it's available in Escape Limited with the 320-watt Premium Sound System in the Moon & Tune Package. The moonroof is standard on Hybrid Limited and optional on Hybrid.
