Grooved Door Panels
The four deep grooves on the body sides are like character lines, setting the tone for the clean, linear look and feel that sets Flex apart.
Wheel Sizes and Styles
Flex comes with 17” aluminum wheels on the SE model, 18” machined aluminum wheels on SEL, and 19” polished aluminum wheels on the high-end Flex Limited (shown). Stylish 20” bright painted aluminum wheels are also available on SEL and Limited. They're all designed to deliver a smooth, comfortable ride, and confident handling capability.
Chip Foose Flex Concept
Riding on Foose Design 22-inch wheels and Eibach springs customized for a lower appearance, the Foose Flex* exterior features a custom-mixed, two-tone blue and cream pearl paint job. Inside, this color scheme continues with three-tone blue, gray and tan premium leather surfaces by Katzkin® leather. The Foose Flex reflects the right amount of expressive contemporary appeal.
Flex2 Concept* by Funkmaster Flex
Straight from the Bronx, in this corner: the Flex2 Concept* tricked out by urban legend Funkmaster Flex. It’s cloaked in signature Brandywine paint by House of Kolor with a faux brushed aluminum roof. To pack more punch, it rides on a lowered suspension and custom 22" rims. The inside? A total knockout: Katzkin® custom seat covers, blistering Sony® sound system, Invisions DVD headrests and of course, Funkmaster Flex custom floormats.
Unique Greenhouse
The “greenhouse” is a term automotive designers have used to refer to a vehicle’s windows, the vertical pillars separating them, and the roof. The unique all-black Flex greenhouse, with privacy glass on the 2nd- and 3rd-row windows and liftgate, seamlessly ties together the body and roof, an effect that is all the more striking with the available two-tone roof.
Two-Tone Roof Option
Select the two-tone roof option and go for a customized look. Match a White Suede roof with one of four body colors. Or how about a striking Ingot Silver roof with a Tuxedo Black Metallic, Steel Blue Metallic or White Suede body? Go ahead and pick one. It's perfectly okay to stand out from the ordinary crowd.
Up to 7 Passengers. Nothing Mini Here
Flex can fit seven people, or six if you opt for the available second row 40/40 reclining bucket seats. And yet, there’s still plenty of room for storage and stretching of legs. The independent rear suspension soaks up bumps and potholes so you don’t have to. While extensive wind tunnel testing helped us pinpoint noise sources – resulting in a new door inset design and the use of advanced sound-deadening materials. We suggest a test-drive to not hear the results for yourself. How simple is the standard power liftgate on Flex Limited? Press the button twice on your integrated key fob to open. Press it twice again to close. It's that simple.
Seating
There are no bad seats in Flex. Seven-passenger seating with a second-row bench is standard. Or you can select a six-passenger setup with center console, optional on SEL and Limited models, and second row seats that fold flat at the touch of a button.
Multi-Panel Vista Roof™ Option
If you're the kind of person who just can't get enough natural light, the multi-panel Vista Roof™ option will definitely be on your list of must-have features. The Vista Roof™, available on Flex SEL and Limited, consists of four skylights covering all three rows of occupants. A power moonroof sits over the 1st row. The 2nd row has two openings. And a larger single skylight is over the 3rd row.
Ambient Lighting
Choose lighting that fits your mood with the 7-color programmable ambient lighting feature that's standard in the high-end Limited model. You can change the lighting on two LEDs on the rear of the front console, two in the front footwells, one inside the front floor console, and two around the front cupholder.
Storage Places
Flex provides a lot of places to put your things. A 1st-row console with storage. Integrated 1st- and 2nd-row door storage pockets. Map pockets behind the 1st-row seats. 3rd-row storage in the armests. A large, lockable glove box. Ten cup and bottle holders as well. What's more, the optional 2nd-row 40/40 bucket seats offer an available center console with storage in the SEL and Limited models. Look around the inside of a Flex — yes, Ford designers thought of just about everything.
No Need for Step Bars
The low body profile has the design effect of a customized vehicle. But Ford designers had more in mind than style. Your experience of comfort begins when you're getting in and ends when you're getting out. You don't see step bars, right? That's because you don't need them for stepping up or down. Three rows of comfortable Flex seating await you and your passengers. So slide right in. And enjoy the ride.
Flex Handling
The independent rear suspension is engineered so that the movement, or angle, of one wheel does not directly affect the other. Each wheel functions “independently” to absorb the effects of bumps and potholes. It’s a big reason Flex rides so smoothly and handles so confidently.
Road Noise Buster
Our engineers put Flex through extensive wind tunnel testing — with wind speeds of up to 100 mph — to help pinpoint and cushion even the smallest sources of annoying noise. Add to that the inset design for the front and rear side doors to help reduce interior noise, and advanced sound-deadening materials to insulate the vehicle. The result? One quiet ride.
Flex Makes Geek, Chic
Increasing performance at the expense of fuel economy is easy enough. But that approach is not in the thinking of Ford’s no compromise approach to engineering. Excellent case in the point: the available new EcoBoost™ twin turbo charged, direct-injected V6 engine. The economy of a V6 with the power of a V8 — that’s what EcoBoost™ delivers.* How is this achieved? EcoBoost™ combines Direct Injection (DI) technology and turbocharged performance. DI is designed to produce a cooler, denser charge that generates more power per every drop of fuel. The boost from the twin turbochargers provides the enhanced performance you’d expect from a higher displacement engine. Also contributing to the engine’s efficiency: wide 6-speed gear ratios calibrated for higher low-end torque plus increased economy at the high overdrive gear; and a power steering system that uses efficient electric actuation rather than a conventional power-extracting belt accessory drive, even when not being used. Exhilarating power isn’t the only feature of the EcoBoost V6 that engages you in the driving experience. Notice the paddle shifters integrated into the steering wheel spokes. A pull back on either paddle will deliver an upshift, while a push forward will induce a matched-rev downshift. The 3.5L EcoBoost™ V6 engine, available on well-equipped Flex SEL and Limited models, is teamed with the traction and handling of Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel Filler
The standard class-exclusive* Easy Fuel™ capless fuel filler has an integrated spring-loaded flapper door that allows you to simply insert the fuel nozzle into the tank to fill up. No screw cap is required. And because Easy Fuel™ automatically seals after the fuel nozzle is removed, fewer evaporative emissions are released into the environment.
Responsive V6 Performance
The standard 3.5L Duratec® V6 that powers Flex features dual overhead cams activating four valves per cylinder with advanced variable-cam timing technology, generating 262 horsepower and 248 lb.-ft. of torque. This advanced V6 is mated to an equally advanced 6-speed automatic transmission. It features a wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds, providing responsive acceleration at the low end and enhanced fuel economy at the overdrive 6th gear.*

Refrigerated 2nd-Row Console Option
If you go with the available 2nd-row 40/40 bucket seats, you can also get the optional 2nd-row console refrigeration. Unlike systems that just keep beverages cool, the compressor-driven unit in Flex can chill up to seven 12-oz. cans, four half-liter bottles or two 20-oz. bottles down to 41°F. There's also a freeze mode that'll go down to 23°F. Available for Limited model.
Available Active Park Assist
With available Active Park Assist, parallel parking can be easy and quick. In fact, it’s nearly three times faster than other vehicles with similar Active Park Assist technologies. While some competitors use imaging, Flex employs ultrasonic sensors on the vehicle. With a push of a button and an activation of your turn signal, the system measures any available parking spaces. Once a spot is located, Flex parks into place with a few simple steps from the driver. Active Park Assist is available on 2010 Flex SEL and Limited models powered by the available 3.5L EcoBoost™ V6 engine.
The Only Time Flex Plays it Safe.
The 2009 Flex earned the highest government crash test ratings in frontal- and side-impact crash tests, from the NHTSA. So it’s no surprise that Flex was also named a “Top Safety Pick” by the IIHS. With advanced features like available All-Wheel Drive and a standard anti-lock brake system that includes AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, Flex is engineered to help keep you safe and in control.
AdvanceTrac® with RSC®
AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®), a Flex standard feature, is the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors measuring both vehicle roll and turning rates. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and RSC applies brake pressure and reduces engine power to help keep you under control. And it all happens in the time it takes to blink an eye. New for 2010 Flex is the Trailer Sway Control feature that works with the AdvanceTrac® with RSC® System. It uses the sensor that measures yaw motion to determine if the trailer is swaying. If necessary, Trailer Sway Control applies precise braking or adjusted engine torque to help bring both vehicle and trailer under control. Trailer Sway Control is included in the Class III Trailer Tow Package, available on all models.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive
Driving in bad weather can be downright unnerving. But don't worry. Flex offers Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. The beauty of AWD is that it doesn't just react to wheel slippage when it occurs, but anticipates it. AWD continuously monitors vehicle and driver inputs, predicts traction, and automatically delivers the precise amount of engine torque needed to all the wheels - even before slippage occurs. AWD is an option with the 3.5L Duratec V6 engine. It’s standard on Flex SEL and Limited models powered by the new available 3.5L EcoBoost™ V6.
Safety Canopy® System
Every Flex comes standard with the Safety Canopy® System. When the system senses a side impact or rollover, it deploys the side-curtain airbags. The side curtain airbags unroll as they inflate, to put protection between the outboard passenger's head and the side window glass. That's outboard-seated protection for all three rows. The Front Passenger Sensing System determines by weight whether the front passenger seat is occupied and if the passenger is large or small…while a sensor detects the driver's seat position to establish the appropriate level of airbag inflation.
A Top Safety Pick
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the 2009 Ford Flex a Top Safety Pick. The Ford Flex earned the highest rating in front and side crash tests, and the rear impact test.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
It's very important to check your tire pressure regularly to keep all four inflated within the manufacturer's specified pressure range, because tire pressure affects ride comfort, safety, and fuel economy. That's why Flex comes equipped with a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
MyKey™
The new programmable MyKey™ feature, standard on all Flex models, provides a number of features to help you make driving safer for young drivers. The audio system will be muted whenever BeltMinder™ is activated until the safety belts are buckled. Low fuel warnings are displayed in the message center followed by a chime when the distance-to-empty value reaches 75 miles. The standard Reverse Sensing System and the available BLIS™ (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross Traffic Alert cannot be turned off. These features are standard settings and cannot be changed. The following MyKey features, however, can be changed. Vehicle speed is limited to 80 mph, and visual warnings are displayed followed by a chime when speed exceeds it. Visual warnings are displayed followed by a chime when a pre-selected speed of 45, 55 or 65 mph is exceeded. The maximum volume of the audio system is limited to 45 percent; MyKey Volume Limited will be displayed in the radio or, if equipped, the navigation screen when someone tries to increase the volume limit. And the AdvanceTrac® electronic stability control system cannot be turned off. When this setting is on, the MyKey user won’t be able to deactivate the system.
Rear View Camera Option
The high-end Flex Limited is equipped with a standard Rear View Camera. The camera automatically displays an image of what's behind you on the center dash display panel when you put the gearshift selector in reverse.
4-Wheel Disc ABS
The smooth and straight stopping action of 4-wheel disc Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is standard on every Flex. But braking isn't ABS's only task. The AdvanceTrac® Stability Enhancement System applies the anti-lock brakes as one of the measures it takes to help improve traction.
